George Cross Heroes (Ep4)
EPISODE 4 - ORDINARY HEROES The stories of how George Crosses were awarded to two civilians. In 1968, the air-stewardess Jane Harrison saves dozens of lives when the BOAC plane they are on crash-lands at Heathrow and bursts into flames. Refusing to abandon her post and repeatedly throwing herself into the flaming fuselage to rescue passengers, she tragically loses her life while saving others. Then the extraordinary tale of how 15-year-old Jack Bamford saves his family from their burning home in Nottinghamshire. As he jumps into the inferno and the shirt starts burning on his back, his only thought is for the rescue of his two young brothers.
